AVL Focus - Issue 2024

eamless connectivity is crucial for modern mobility. As

industries and public services increasingly rely on real-

time data, the limitations of terrestrial networks become

evident. Non-terrestrial networks (NTN), like Starlink, bridge

these gaps, ensuring uninterrupted service.

Continuous data exchange is essential for safety services

Assistance Systems (ADAS), automated driving (AD) and

cloud-based services including AI assistants and streaming.

Automation in agriculture and logistics further demands fast,

reliaFle internet. 282 fills tLese coverage voids, Fecoming a

cornerstone for future services.

Precision Farming

Real-time data transmission supports IoT

devices, drones, and sensors to monitor

soil, crops, and weather, optimizing farming

Tractices and increasing yield eƾciency.

Autonomous Operations

Reliable connectivity is paramount for

autonomous tractors to navigate, avoid

obstacles, and Teleoperated Driving to

operate in remote areas with limited terrestrial

coverage. NTN ensures operational integrity.

Fleet Management

7eamless connectivity enLances ƽeet

management through real-time tracking,

predictive maintenance, and optimized route

planning, reducing downtime and costs.

Disaster Response

Vehicles with NTN capabilities can act as

mobile connectivity hubs during disasters,

maintaining crucial communication when

traditional networks fail.

Initiated by the AVL Creators Expedition Startup

Program, AVL collaborates with partners to

integrate an innovative connectivity solution into

AVL’s autonomous electric tractor, exploring the

vast potential of connectivity applications and

services in the agricultural sector.

The central part of the connectivity solution is a sTecifically

developed modem with maximum connection uptime enabled

by various means ranging from mobile networks up to NTN.

Good Prospects for NTN Solutions

In the agricultural sector, the development of NTN solutions
