Driving Infrastructure

Innovation for a

Sustainable Future

AVL Italy

s the global energy landscape evolves, AVL is expand-

ing its expertise beyond traditional automotive do-

mains, entering the infrastructure business with a clear

mission: to enable smart, multi-vector energy systems.

Expanding Expertise Beyond Mobility

In Italy, this transformation is already visible. With energy vec-

tors such as electricity and hydrogen redefining energy man-

agement and consequently mobility, AVL Italy acts not only as

an integrator but as a technology provider. Contributions range

from automation software, safety systems, and certification to

project management and in-depth know-how in electrolyzers,

fuel cells, and storage systems.

Supporting Industry in Transition

Among the first initiatives is the collaboration with Gruppo

Intergea, a leading automotive distribution group. To support

their energy transition goals, Intergea adopted AVL ATENE™,

our IoT platform for energy monitoring and optimization. This

implementation enables smarter energy use and improves

operational efficiency.

Enabling Heavy-Duty Electrification

Another milestone is the A22 Firmian project, marking a major

step in the electrification of heavy-duty transport. AVL Italy

is developing peak shaving technology to be linked to a new

megawatt-scale charging station along the Brenner motor-

way, one of Europe’s strategic freight corridors. This project

showcases AVL’s ability to deliver high-impact infrastructure

technology with both innovation and strategic relevance.

From heavy-duty electrification on Europe’s busiest routes to pioneering hydrogen

hubs in Southern Italy, AVL Italy is redefining infrastructure. By combining

automation, safety, and engineering know-how, the team delivers solutions that set

new benchmarks for sustainable mobility.

Building Hydrogen Infrastructure

Hydrogen infrastructure is gaining momentum, and AVL Italy

is engaged in several pioneering projects. These include the

design and implementation of a 5 MW hydrogen production

plant and refueling stations for trains and buses commis-

sioned by Ente Autonomo Volturno (EAV) in Naples, as well

as two motorway initiatives for hydrogen refueling stations at

Paganella Est and Sadobre on the A22.

In these projects, AVL serves as both engineering expert and

technology partner, integrating the entire hydrogen value chain

– from production via electrolysis, compression, and storage

(solid and gaseous), to refueling through dispensers. Solu-

tions cover facility engineering, automation software, safety

systems, and certification frameworks, ensuring each station

meets the highest standards of performance and reliability.

“Our commitment to sustainable mobility goes

beyond vehicles – it’s about building intelligent,

interconnected ecosystems that will power the

future. Through these pioneering projects, AVL

Italy is laying the foundations for the innovative

infrastructure that will support the complex

demands of future transport.”
