AVL Focus - Issue 2024

Standardization as Key to Integration

The array of differing approaches means that there is often

functions. However, objective analysis of this type is essential

for guaranteeing successful integration. Modern ADAS/AD

functions have to process immense volumes of data, this

process is in need of standardization.

AVL applies a holistic approach based on a high level of

system knowledge. We have combined a number of tools

from the entire spectrum of AVL expertise to overcome the

challenges of software integration and the V&V of ADAS/AD

functions. The result is a complete solution that enables OEMs

to streamline their offerings. This makes it easier for them

to develop the desired functions from the concept phase to

series production, with the requisite scalability.

Connection and Automation for V&V

In order to achieve optimum consistency across all phases,

we have standardized the import methodology for all types

of tests. Customer requirements are translated into data

records that are directly linked to the V&V tasks, meaning

that subsequent creation of the check catalog is largely

automated. This ensures that the customer requirements are

implemented and that all legal requirements are completely

met.

feedback. Certain basic requirements for the functions,

such as “braking in the case of an imminent accident”, are

converted directly into a testing instruction. The routes for

these test drives are automatically created and continuously

optimized based on important features (e.g. frequent speed

limits). This leads to the creation of a digital logbook that is

also used in the validation phase if end-user perception is also

to be incorporated.

n addition to strict time and cost constraints, manufacturers

are confronted with a high level of heterogeneity as they

apply a range of approaches to function development

and use various systems. This situation can be attributed

to the fact that function development is often assigned to

companies that focus on software and AI without systemic

understanding of the automotive sector.

– Improved Integration, Verification,

and Validation

Integrating ADAS/AD functions in the vehicle is one of the

most pressing topics within the automotive industry.
