HYDROGEN AND FUEL CELL

he development of fuel cells has undergone a

remarkable change in recent years. While the focus has

traditionally been on car and bus applications, we are

now seeing significant interest in otLer areas sYcL as Leavy

duty commercial vehicles, maritime applications, stationary

power generation plants, and aviation. These new areas of

application place a much higher demand on the technology,

esTecially in terms oJ TerJormance, eƾciency, and liJetime.

Increasing Demands on Performance and Lifetime

A key aspect of this development is the increasing power

demand. While outputs of around 100 kW are standard in the

aYtomoFile sector, tLe new fields oJ aTTlication reUYire oYtTYt

powers of 200 kW and more. This is especially apparent in

heavy-duty commercial vehicles and maritime applications,

which not only place higher demands on system performance,

but which can also be served particularly advantageously by

larger, more powerful stacks.
